God gave King David a promise. God would establish a kingdom and on the throne will be a David’s son (1 Chronicles 17:1-15). David waited. He waited many years. In his humble poem (Psalm 27), from experience David states, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let our heart take courage; wait for the Lord.” He wanted to honor God and build a temple, but God said no, that will be the task of his son (1 Chronicles 17:16-27). Still, the prophecy of David’s offspring in God’s eternal kingdom did not come to pass (2 Samuel 7:28-29). But God’s words are identical with His actions – it will come to pass. The King, the fulfillment of the David covenant is fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Luke 1:26-33). What a joyous event! Yet, we still wait. The King has come and eternal Kingdom has started, but we are still in a time of transformation. In this time, with a surrendered heart like David has taught us, we get to enjoy Him now and forever (2 Corinthians 3:18).
