The prophet Jeremiah was the messenger that told Judah they were going to be in exile for generations Jeremiah 29:4-14. Though this seems like defeat, it is under God’s design and under His direction. In Ezekiel 10 is a description of God abandoning the temple and he goes into exile with His people. That is sacrifice, that is love. The Hebrew word used there is “hesed;” a never ending, always patient love.

Waiting can be in God’s design and under His direction. But while we wait, we need to live out our vocation. God told Jeremiah that they should seek the welfare of the city they are in exile in. Love them and you will prosper. And while we do this we should worship. Always recognize the glory in God as we serve Him. But, beware, there are snakes ready to deceive.

We are all a part of a family, and the Bible teaches us how to live wisely in families. Family is vital, and family is vulnerable (Proverbs 27:8). It is a critical part of our social and personal foundation. It has a deep influence in our lives, for good and sometimes not so good (Proverbs 6:16-19). It begins with honor and respect (Exodus 20:12). There is a structure to families, and discipline matters (Proverbs 23:13-14) (Proverbs 22:6); discipline comforts and protects (Psalm 23:4).

Finally, and most importantly, families forgive! We all fall short, and the Lord heals through forgiveness. Just as Christ forgave first, so also we should forgive (Ephesians 4:31-32).

Search the scriptures for wisdom (Acts 17:11).

We can be just as out of balance by not working enough as we can by not resting enough. Sometimes the challenge is trusting God with our rest during the time of harvest.
