]]> All history points to the crucifixion and subsequent resurrection (⁠Matthew 27:27-54⁠). The cross is a scandal (⁠1 Cor 1:18⁠); it makes no sense to invent such a thing – to use a device of torture as a symbol of grace. This idea of sacrifice is alarming (especially the sacrifice of Jesus); could there be another way? Even Jesus asked this question. The night of His death, He prayed; “Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me,” but concluded, “Your will be done.” Justice is required for the history of sin. It is here that God’s love and justice ‘kiss’ (⁠Psalm 85:10⁠). Seven hundred years after Isaiah wrote about the suffering Messiah’s redemption of the world (⁠Isaiah 53:1-12⁠), it finally came to pass. Love overwhelming, love manifest (⁠1 John 4:9-10⁠), love in action, the act of history. Jesus’ act of love is enough to redeem the entire world (⁠John 3:16⁠).

]]> When John the Baptist was in prison, he sent some of his disciples to ask Jesus if he truly was the Messiah (⁠Matt 11:1-11⁠). Jesus honored John — then He pointed to the signs that were prophesied in Isaiah. Jesus has grace for those who wrestle with doubt. He knows that there will be a day where faith becomes sight, hope is fulfilled, and love is eternal (⁠1 Cor 13:12-13⁠). Then, there will be no doubt. But, while we are here on earth, we need to be active in faith as to not drift or become discouraged. Jesus warns, don’t become complacent (⁠Matt 11:16-24⁠). He knows it is a hard task to be human, and He welcomes the weary, offering rest for your souls (⁠Matt 11:25-30⁠).

If we keep our eyes on God’s inspiring word, we will be able to see our spiritual growth and the areas we need to pray for help. Grace is God’s gift for us, through our faith in Jesus Christ. And faith is something we must practice daily. When we do, we will easily see God’s grace in our lives, fruit of the spirit.
