In one way, prayer is very easy; however, it is also deeply complex. Prayer should be the business of Christians; it is our duty, and it should be our delight. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he describes this rich, deep desire to know the love of God (Ephesians 3:14-21). Prayer is the most likely place to be this close to God. Most often we pray for the physical, but we wish you to know the love of God in His fullest, just as Paul prayed. Don’t just know God intellectually, but experientially. Abide in Him (John 15:4-5).

The post Abide – Week 3 first appeared on Liferoads Church.

Abide is a verb relating to where you live. Where is your permanent spiritual address? Live in constant and close community with Christ.

Map out a space of peace and order, and just show up. Put yourself in a place that God can grow you. C.S. Lewis used the analogy that humans are engines fueled by God. And God is with us! Grace has appeared and He came to train us (Titus 2:11-14). So, abide in Him. Experience the love of God, unfold the love of Jesus (Ephesians 3:14-19).

The post Abide – Week 1 first appeared on Liferoads Church.

The spiritual discipline of reading Scripture, or doing devotions, is a major influence on how we grow. 2 Timothy tells us that Scripture is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.

As Christians, we want to emulate Jesus, but why is it that so often we don't act the way he would? The solution to this problem is in our identity and our training. Peter tells us that we have been given a new identity by the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Because of our new identity, we are encouraged to practice new habits.
