How do we be patient in our waiting periods? How do we recognize that it is not a waste of time? The fall broke our relationship with God, others, creation, and ourselves. However, in the same verses of Genesis that describe the fall, God presents the protoevangelium; the first good news of the redeemer. Jesus is that redeemer. He brought Himself down to a position such that Satan could strike His heel, yet in the same act, Jesus crushed Satan (John 12:28-31). This was God’s plan before the foundation of the world (1 Peter 1:19-20) (Rev 13:8). And God’s plan requires waiting. During this time God is doing great things in us and around us. We have hope in this, and we must be patient (James 5:7-11). For, we who wait shall have renewed strength and will not be exhausted. We shall mount with wings like eagles and we will run without weary (Isaiah 40:30-31).

The post Waiting Room – Hope first appeared on Liferoads Church.

The way we think about work is broken. We often see it as a necessary evil, but scripture presents a different way to think about it (Colossians 3:23-24). Though it is imperfect, there is goodness in work, and we should be wise about how we think about and how we engage in work (Proverb 12:11)(Proverb 22:29). God created us to work (Genesis 2:15), but it has been corrupted in the fall. We can still find meaning and joy in working diligently (Proverb 13:4). Offer our labor to the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). One of the important parts of that is to honor the rhythm of work and rest (Proverb 23:4)(Proverb 15:19).

Recognize that Jesus spent most of His adult life as a craftsman. In our times of labor, it may help to think of Christ joyously serving and honoring in his vocation of carpentry. (Psalm 90:17)

The post Walk Wisely – Week 5 first appeared on Liferoads Church.

Nowhere are those truths more obvious than in the Bible story of Joseph. Today Pastor Donnie shows Joseph's meteoric ascension from a prison cell to the Pharoah's court in a single day.

Pastor Donnie looks at how God was with Joseph during his many trials and suffering as a slave in Egypt, and though Joseph couldn't have known the specifics of how God would bring good out of terrible circumstances, He did ... and God always will bring good out of suffering for His children.

One of the most powerful pieces of the Christmas story is the phrase "God with us." This is an amazing thought! Though humanity first hid from God's presence He continues to draw nearer and nearer to his people. The story of God coming to be with us is powerful. Living in God's presence is where we find true fulfillment and joy.

When the days are short, and it is the darkest time of the year, we do something interesting: we light everything up! God also brought light into the darkness in creation. He brought light forth simply by His word. The word of God is powerful, and the scale of His creation is immense. But He still wants to be involved in the smallest details in each of our lives. He wants to be able to exercise His creating power in our lives.
